There are too many great views in Italy. Most are typically spectacular in their expected ways. Our friend Kirk Peterson yearns for the other side, posting on Facebook:
I have a request for more pictures; some ugliness. Of course ugliness can be beautiful, but it’s interesting to contrast foreign ugliness to what I see here. We have plenty. Their lousy 70s apartamenti vs. ours.
So, here’s to his request.
You can decide if it’s ugly or beautiful.
Grazie Roberto! You have tricked us by showing us well-composed photographs with rich color. So much modern photography is dreary in black and white. It makes the ordinary ugly; ‘real life’ drained of color. Of course including some miserable-looking people ups the game. But some of what you show is not that bad – better than most of the flimsy crap we see rising around us here. And some of it was once better – so I imagine it restored. And then I simply want to be there with you all – ugly buildings or not. You can after all get great coffee and food in ugly buildings. Thanks for sharing this.
Also as for the Italiani and the weather, I think that they have internal clocks that tell them what season it is and therefore what to wear. It has little to do with the temperature. We were in Amalfi in the fall and all the ladies had their fur coats on, while we were swimming in the sea. Bella figura trumps weather.
